Most young Nigerians are online before anyone has explained what a password, a scam or a privacy setting is. This programme puts that explanation into schools and homes.
Safe Online Nigeria is a schools programme delivered through teachers. Partner secondary schools receive a short curriculum, teacher training and take-home guides for parents in Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and English. It covers privacy, passwords, scams, harassment, misinformation and where to get help, and it is written for the phones people actually own.
Train the teachers, give parents something to hold, and keep the materials free and open.
Teachers attend a two-day workshop and receive lesson plans for six sessions. Schools run a parents' evening with the printed guides. Every material is published under an open licence so that any school can use it. We measure change through short surveys before and after, and we update the materials each year as the risks change.
